‘the interview’ is an experimental short film exploring human behaviour and micro-expressions in the context of the sit-down documentary interview, using the interview form to engage with the power dynamics created by the position of the participants and the camera, and subjecting myself to the same process, to think through vulnerability, control, and the construction of authenticity.
how honest can a person really be with a camera pointed at them?
what are people saying when they aren’t speaking?
are people more authentic, more themselves, during the moments before “action” and after “cut”?
how individualistic are expressions, gestures, posture and the sounds people make when they think?
